ABOUT THE CAST:

14 Talented Deaf Actresses, Models, Dancers, Teachers, Athletes including a 3x Deaf Olympian, a current reigning Pageant Queen, an Anthropologist, an award-winning filmmaker and an Attorney! make up the V-Girl Cast.

ABOUT THE PLAY:

Eve Ensler has said that she wrote "The Vagina Monlogues" to "celebrate the vagina".  It is based on 'interviews with more than 200 women, With humor and grace the pieces celebrate women's sexuality and strength.  V-Day  is a global movement that supports anti-violence organizations throughout the world, while drawing attention to the larger fight to stop worldwide violence (including rape, battery, incest, female genital mutilation, sexual slavery) against women and girls.  www.vday.org

 

ABOUT THE BENEFIT PERFORMANCE:

The Silent Word Community joins the  V-Day Campaign  2010 with a benefit performance of "The Vagina Monologues"  in ASL featuring an all- Deaf Cast  &voiced by Hearing Actresses and Interpreters.   www.facebook.com/VDAYASL, vdayasl@gmail.com

90% of the proceeds will benefit Greater Los Angeles Agency on Deafness Inc.(GLAD); Domestic Violence Services www.gladinc.org

10% of the proceeds will go to V-Day's 2010 Spotlight Campaign, focusing on women and girls of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to create a City of Joy; refuge for rape victims.  www.raisehopeforcongo.org

 

 

There will be two (2)performances only on:Saturday, April 10, 2010

1 p.m. Matinee  AND  7 p.m. Evening performance.  Ticket price includes admission to  *Meet & Greet the V-Girls Cast Happy Hour* in between performances from 3:30-6:30pm at MINX Restaurant&Lounge 300 Harvey Dr. Glendale, CA 91206 (5mins. away)

* Complimentarty Appetizers but will be a Cash bar..  

 

 

ABOUT THE PRODUCER:

The Silent Word Community founder; Sheree Devereaux is an award-winning producer. Her first theatrical production featuring a "Deaf and Hearing" cast, acting in tandem, was nominated for five NAACP Theatre Awards and won for "Best Ensemble" in 2001.  Since then Sheree has continued serving in the Deaf Community, creating opportunity and opening doors. Two years ago she, created "DEAFINIT MODELS" a Model Management Agency exclusive to representing and advocating for the inclusion of Deaf and Hard of Hearing men and women, aspiring to become editorial, fitness and runway Models within the fashion Industry. DEAFINIT MODELS debuted their fashion show in The City of LA's Deaf Festival last year and will take to the runway again this September 25, 2010.
